Richard asks..
| Quote: | | Hellooooooooooo..............anybody home? |
No, we're not home. We're out west caring for a disabled parental unit. Sorry to have left you all hanging. Just when it seems one crisis has past another one rears it's head. For all those inquiring minds that keep checking back...It's a T-1 interface card for a Mitel (formerly Inter-Tel) phone system. The little red alarm light means that there's a problem and when there's a red-light problem it means that the phones aren't working...and we are. Very hard, too.
Keep checking back. Eventually we may have a life again! Love you, miss you.

Yes, we're bad. But you see we had this nasty-ass ice storm that caused a lot of damage at home and work and it's just been all we can do to keep up with it. But things are starting to be normal again. If you ignore the blizzard that started raging about 4:00 pm today...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honourable Mentions to mknace for getting the painting part of the puzzle and we know it was just a stab in the dark, but somehow Richard managed to turn a little snippet of fur into a monkey!
Solution: It is the African Safari diorama at Cabela's KC, complete with elephants, cheetahs, and monkeys (oh my!).
mknace spied the painting on the wall but didn't see the forest for the trees.
Exercise caution when you disparage Norway herr Kask. God's truth we twins are direct descendents of Eirik Blodøks. Everyone knows how he got his name and who knows what witchy powers his wife passed down to her children…Regardless of where you're from, we like your music, but you have a long way to go before you can compare yourself to the likes of John Balance. Btw, have you pre-ordered your copy of Ape of Naples?
No JP. It is an even lesser known release of the group Kansas...
Rajiv Chopra combines his love of food with his love of love to give us an oh-so-romantic guess. Unfortunately if we were in this setting we might be the dinner rather than the diners.
Lewesrat made our heads spin with her whirl-wind comments. Unsurprisingly none of them were correct, but we salute her pluck and determination in continuring to plug away at our puzzles.
Richard snuck in well past our self imposed deadline (which we missed again) to garner a piece of the puzzle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This will be the final puzzle of 2007 (and we're even posting it early). With the holidays taking up so much of everyone's time, we think it best to let everyone pop in at their leisure and take a guess or three. There's a lot going on in this picture, can you figure it out? Besides, it just seems fitting to end out the year with puzzle 99 and then we can start the new year and turn 100! Good luck everyone; have a wonderful holiday whichever one you celebrate and a happy new year! TTFN

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Congratulations to herr Kask. The musician from Norway didn't shoot a three-pointer by deciphering the entire big picture but he got enough of it to be declared top dawg this week.
Solution: It is our good friend's Greyhound in her Halloween finery. She was a ballerina in tutu. She won prettiest costume at doggie daycare.
Rajiv Chopra a.k.a. Romeo pines for the 'Rat Girl this week and dries his tears with tissues made for amour.
mknace saw flower petals in the delicate pink shades that graced the picture. Lexi has never been accused of smelling like a flower, just a dog.
Lewesrat was all over the map this week. Unfortunately it wasn't a map of our puzzle. She's much better at flirting with the other contestants, isn't she?
Mark, our favorite globe-trotting contestant, ruined a perfectly good laptop chortling over his own joke. Merry Christmas to you too, Sir. It's good to see you again. Give our love to yer mum when you see her.
We're so glad we were delayed in posting so the esteemed JP had an opportunity to gander this weeks guesser. We've heard of milk baths and coffee bars, but never mocha baths. Are we missing out on something sinfully delicious?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Congratulations to RipChamb!, who executed a perfect guesser-back sneak when it looked like the twins went AWOL again. The Ripster saw us taking pictures of the below mentioned equipment and was forbidden from guessing for the week. We can cry no foul that he came back and posted the answer long after the week had expired. Perhaps he thought we would never return and wanted to satisfy all your inquiring minds...
Honourable Mentions to Richard, who visited three times this week, made a lap around the page and guessed we'd somehow managed to scale the heights of the natatorium and get a shot of the skinny dippers in the pool from the vents overhead, but that's not the guess that got him in the HM space. Nor was the Spidey comment, that one just pissed us off by leaving a stupid song stuck in our head's all freakin' day. No, the guess that made the mentions was the industrial drying rack comment.
Solution: It is an infrared electric textile dryer. Specifically the Radicure D by The M&R Companies. It's a handy-dandy piece of equipment that dries (cures) the ink on a freshly imprinted piece of clothing. They are very warm to work around (so we like them in the winter time) and do a superb job of re-heating pizza. Yummy! That may be why your new shirt smells like pepperoni!
mknace had a really, really good guess with the rat trap (and no offense was intended to any other contestants with that guess). We have a live animal trap that we occasionally use on wildlife that becomes a little too familiar with our house and the picture does indeed look like the heavy steel mesh of which it is constructed.
Once Lewesrat calmed down enough to avoid the obvious bait strewn her way, she managed several good guess. Unfortunately none of them was correct but damn, she's got the WIIW seductress spirit!
dskujawski pondered the puzzler and gave a grate, er great, guess of air grate. We see that! Come back and see what we see again!
herr Kask and his buffed-out bod strutted his stuff for the L'Rat Girl but was apparently unable to appease the Insatiable One since she showed up shortly after looking for Dr. Jones…then again, maybe she caught something?
Juli we have to call this one as we see it. Your team hasn't a snowball's chance in the Maintain Campaign…unless of course you admitted you're going to fatten up for the holidays!
JP returned long enough to remind us of a former contestant, one we all truly miss, Dr. Mark Jones of the flowers and waterfalls in exotic places. And we use his signature phrase all the time now. We get the greatest posed-portrait pictures now that we have our subjects shout gubbins catcher instead of cheese.
And then, speak of the devil, Mark pops up from down under and gives us a lazy wave. Even though he dissed us all we guess we'll pop on down to his page and see if we can't score some hairy-chested, beach-going, he-man cheesecake pics.
Nizam Ibrahim must have pesky critters like we do since the description of the trap in this guess nails it better than our description of the trap did. Keep coming back, we like your attention to detail.
herr Kask reacts in a quick and swift way to Mark's behaving like a royal perse by caving in and admitting he thinks he's a sissy. Oh, and he guessed again.
owaister agrees with mknace and Nizam Ibrahim that it is an animal trap. Ok, we admit to wanting to see selected fellow employees get trapped in this machine...
Guesses for the puzzle were finished with a visit from long, lost liz moody who knows our love of the mundane and ordinary and gosh darn-it, she just gives us wonderful ideas for future puzzles!
A great big WIIW welcome to all our new visitors: dskujawski, Nizam Ibrahim, and owaister; long time lurkers, first time guessers!

Sorry, sorry, SORRY!!! We never should have been foolish enough to jinx ourselves by actually giving a date when we expected the client from hell to be done with us. But noooooooooo, it's just one little nit-picky thing after another. We will chalk this up to lessons learned. Rather than set another deadline, we'll just quote Ah-nold and say, "We'll be back."
Apologies all around. We find ourselves over-committed with work and family and friends. We will return on 11-14-07 with the answer and a new puzzle. We appreciate your patience. Thanks to everyone for hanging in there!

Solution
|
|

Sorry-got errors when we tried to post last night, but here we are!
Solution: It is a napkin holder. Made especially for us by a family friend. Matches our wood and everything.
mknace stops in first again and recognizes the material, but we wood have to say nay to his guess on the finished product.
Rajiv Chopra we almost want you to return to the food guesses. You make us long for what we lack with all your bedroom related theories!
Lewesrat showed up right after Rajiv…perhaps they were scrambling for some post-coital entertainment? Most folks reach for a cigarette…
herr Kask racked up the guesses and then threw in an odd-ball. Spray tan? We'll take our skin cancer first-hand, thank you.
The contestant masquerading as Gene Wilder quotes one of our all time favorite movies, but is knocking on all the wrong doors with this answer.
Once again Juli "If you build it they will come" hasn't a prayer in getting it right.

Solution
|
|
|
Solution: It is a table saw.
mknace gets kudos for first arrival after the puzzle posted. He also gets a nod for a good, but incorrect guess. We also would like to thank mknace for sharing his photos with us. From the extensive representation of women in his photos we can clearly tell that our government tells us lots of lies and unfortunately a lot of Americans believe those lies. Those of us who have access to information beyond what our government might give us know the truth. mohd khairul nizam abu hassan, thank you for sharing your small world and simple life with the rest of us. You do make a difference.
Rajiv Chopra we must admit to liking your romantic view of life. You make us wish we were less jaded and more inclined to think that fantasy might become reality. We thank you also for sharing what you see with the rest of us. You never really do know when your words and pictures will make a difference. One of our mates will travel to China next month and so we've made a point of sharing the pictures and words we've run across on fotopages in the hopes that they make for a better journey. Keep sharing with us and never lose the loving view you have of the world and your fellow man.
A2 Observer sees beach scenes in our totally land-locked mid-western garage. It reminds us of the tale of the blind men who could only feel a small part of a whole and thus were completely wrong in their supposition of what the "big picture" really was. Hmmmm, dare we politicize any more this week?
Lewesrat, much like her fabled friend Juli, seems on a home improvement bent lately. Are you feathering the nest in anticipation of a new arrival or are you making ready for a new mate….or are you going for a threesome this time?
Our friend btw, herr Kask, is all a-flutter over his triumph on the last puzzle. So a-flutter that he can't even proffer a guess this week. Well what do you expect from a man who comes from the land that brought us kiss and bajs?
Juli may very well be a handy gal to have around the house, but she's clueless when it comes to these puzzlers.
Speaking of clueless, Mr. Gordon may know his way around the track, but he's not even close to being #1 at WIIW.
A great big WIIW welcome to Mr. Gordon; long time lurker, first time guesser!

Solution

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Congratulations to herr Kask, aka schnagelkott, who schnagelled another correct guess with toilet roll.
Solution: It is hillbilly crepe paper. We needed to decorate someone's workspace for a birthday and could think of no finer material than toilet paper since his department handles all the crap that gets thrown their way.
Rajiv Chopra is still on that moonlit shore, but this week the strangeness that is Rat Girl seems to have infected his mind...
Richard doesn't realize that last week's picture was pretty much the only picture we took on the trip. We decided to make it a real vacation and enjoy it rather than play film-crew and stand outside the action.
btw, herr Kask. We call them silage bales over here too. We've got round ones, rectangles and squares.
JP gets slammed for being an American using a very American term for an international sport. We hope he's a good sport. We won't go into the history of rugby, football and soccer as they pertain to Americans, you can get all that from wikipedia or ESPN.
Lewesrat shows up just in time to malign our taste in decorating. Perhaps she'll bring over some of that swanky fabric she's been eyeing on ebay and give us a makeover. And stop fantasizing about the other contestants. You give them disturbing dreams...

Solution

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Congratulations to all the winners this week. So many were so right we don't know where to begin. First mknace correctly identified the wave coming off of the boat, and Beavis correctly identified the output from the bilge pump.
Honourable Mentions to A2 Observer who mis-identified the side of the boat but correctly surmised we were skimming the surface of Lake of the Ozarks.
Solution: It is the "look at all those big houses" tour boat that circles Lake of the Ozarks. We're leaning over the starboard (that's right to us land lubbers) side to take a picture of the wake coming off the bow (that's front to us land lubbers) of the boat. The bilge (that's sewage to us land lubbers) streams were an unintentional addition to the picture.
Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades go to: Richard who got the boat part right but was so off the mark with the speed boat and engine draining qualifiers that we had to place him here.
Leave it to the man with a P in his name (JP) to come up with Siamese twins peeing. Looks like the old Beavis rubbed off on JP and JP rubbed off on Beavis this week. You know, we never see JP and Beavis in a room together at the same time. Do you think...
Ever the romantic, Rajiv Chopra is dreaming of waves softly lapping a moonlit shore, the girl of the moment snuggled tight in his arms. Sigh.
Juli shows what a city girl she is. Can't tell a lake from a storm drain. Get out and see the world, girl!
herr Kask, herr Kask. As you can see above, there can be more than one correct guesser. You could have agreed with someone else's answer and gotten an Honourable Mention. Or you could have guessed we were nude on a boat taking pictures and you would have been correct also.

Puzzle

Solution
|
|
|
Solution: It is the blinker light on a kiddie ride at the mall. This thing was hysterical. Every few minutes the sirens and lights would go off trying to entice rug rats to get their parents to drop some coins and fire it up. First time it happened we were sitting at a table with our backs to it and it made us jump. Almost peed our pants!
Horse Shoes and Hand Grenades go to: LeWeSRaT. She was so damn closed with her emergency light guess considering the kiddie ride was an emergency recovery vehicle. We had quite a bit of fun making fun of the "recovery" banner at the top. "Help, I'm tweaking and I can't get up."
Rajiv Chopra stopped by after his tryst with the L Girl to cool down with a frosty glass of...lemonade?. We actually have some glasses that resemble the hatched pattern on the light. Good try, Rajiv, but you were probably too distracted by the tryst to focus.
herr Kask obviously keeps up on the gossip of trashy American music personalities. We can forgive Mr. James the snow blindness, but not the torture.
mknace keeps trying and that's the way you play this game. Plastic yes, straw no.
Richard put some thought into it this week and we call that a right good try.
